Mud-on-the-Move

Stray Cat Studio offers group projects for all ages that can be "delivered" to your location.

Stray Cat Studio is a business dedicated to the community, focused on supporting our town and county on an individual basis. We believe access to art and education is something everybody deserves. Since implementing our program last year, Mud on the Move has been inspiring all ages of people. We have collaborated with local schools, scout groups, rehabilitation centers, ministries, and private individuals to bring hands on learning in a safe and supportive environment.

Our program provides a traveling, “pop up” ceramics studio. Complete with a professional teaching artist, clay, tools, equipment, and glaze to foster problem solving, imagination, and persistence. Participants will begin their lesson walking step by step beside our teachers learning the fundamentals of clay and then have time to decorate their projects and let their imagination play.

Leaf Plate

Students will be introduced to basic slab building skills and asked to think geometrically. Stray Cat Studio will provide a plethora of local seasonal leaves for the participants to explore impression making with. Students will turn these plant imprints into a small clay plate, bowl, or dish.

While learning the fundamentals of handbuilding, students will combine slab and coil skills to create a uniquely designed mug. They will learn bow to roll and attach a handle with its own flare. Following building, students will have a chance to stamp and decorate with our selection of handmade tools so that they can truly make it their own. The last part of class will be set aside to glaze and finalize their mug.

Stray Cat Studio’s teachers will lead students step by step through the making process of a unique platter. Students will be taught the fundamentals of slab building. A brief history of production pottery and the use of molds will be provided. Forms will be available to choose from to impress the clay into. Students will have the chance to design and decorate their platters with each their handprint, finger prints to create a timeless treasure. Stray Cat will also provide a selection of stamps, carving tools, and colored glazes for final decorations.

============================

This winter, we are starting a new program. We are still offering discounts to groups of people who fall under our guidelines (non profit, disadvantaged community, etc). However, we believe every organization and person has an immense value to offer. We would like to establish a trade system where the organization pays half for a class and, to cover the remaining costs, gives back to the studio or Beaver Falls community.

Here are some ideas of how you could "give back":

Hand out Stray Cat brochures to student/organization body

Spend an afternoon volunteering to clean our studio

Volunteer as helpers for other classes/public projects

Make a mailing and gift for military members overseas

Make a free, simple gift for us to give away during holiday seasons (One year we made handwarmers)

Create and paint leaves out of clay for our fence on the new building’s location

Help glue ceramics to our mosaic wall/fence

Help our Creative Designer create props for our shop display

Pick up trash in downtown Beaver Falls area

We are a business dedicated to the community, focused on supporting our town and county on an individual basis. When we can, we like to take the opportunity to give back and foster inspiration. In our acknowledgment of the good that art brings to our lives, we are happy to offer discounts on our classes, both in studio and through our “Mud on the Move” program.

We ask any businesses and organization seeking a discount to go through our application process below.

Your Business and/or Organization must fit a minimum of one of these requirements to be considered for a discount.
